Senior pastor of the Fountain of Life Church, Taiwo Odukoya has urged the christian community especially members of his church to emulate the forgiveness spirit of the former president of South Africa, Dr. Nelson Mandela who died last Thursday at the age of 95. He gave this admonition in his church today.
Odukoya contended that only a few Christians can be locked up in the prison for 3 years and come out to embrace those that imprisoned them. The Lagos based preacher extolled the unusual forgiveness spirit of Madiba who was locked in prison for 27 years for fighting against against the obnoxious apartheid regime and never vilified those that wasted his prime in prison.
He also cautioned some christian leaders who might carpet some outstanding achievements of some people because in their view they do not subscribe to their faith. Odukoya posited that he was less concern about the religious stand of the late global icon while on earth.
” Mandela shocked the world with his unusual forgiveness, which earned him respect globally”, Odukoya said while urging members to emulate such virtue.
There have been torrent of tributes since the death of Mandela was announced. The world rose to hail the late anti- apartheid hero. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in his tributes spoke about how Mandela changed the world through his courage. US President Barrack Obama, also celebrated the exit of the late leader.
Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan also declared a 3 day mourning period for mandela.
