The hope of Super Eagles Coach, Sunday Oliseh of bringing Liverpool FC star Jordon Ibe into the Nigeria’s National team was dashed as the Europe based player decided to renew his allegiance to her Majesty by staying back in England.
It will be recalled that Oliseh held persuaded the 19-year-old winger at Melwood on Wednesday to join Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Bermondsey-born Ibe has represented England at under-18, 19 and 20 level but is eligible to play for the Super Eagles as his dad David is from Nigeria.
Reports say Ibe is expected to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England Under-21s squad for next month’s matches against USA and Norway.
He could still change his mind until he has played a competitive fixture for the senior side but considering his progress with Liverpool it’s unlikely to be long before Roy Hodgson calls upon him.
Ibe has been Liverpool’s standout performer in pre-season and is expected to start in Sunday’s Premier League opener at Stoke City.
