Delta Police Commissioner, Abaniwonda Olufemi, has cautioned against the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) planned protest, stressing a zero-tolerance policy towards any violent demonstrations.
He said police personnel have been deployed across the state to ensure adequate security and safety during the protest.
In a statement issued by the state police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, the CP directed all formations to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Edafe said the police boss had a stakeholders’ meeting with the leaders of labour unions on measures to achieve a peaceful protest.
Abaniwonda admitted that citizens have a right to protest, but added that violent protest is criminal and would not be tolerated.
He warned protesters to shun violent conduct, adding that anyone found breaching public peace will be arrested and prosecuted by the law.
He urged residents to go about their lawful duties without fear, saying that modalities have been put in place to ensure that the protest is peaceful.
