The Chairman of the Skye Bank PLC, Mr Tunde Ayeni was literally stampeded as guests struggled to exchanged pleasantries with the Kogi born Billionaire at a Service of Song of late wife of General David Jemibewon, Chief Mrs Comfort Adunni Jemibewon in Lagos on Wednesday.
Ayeni is a native of Ijimu, Kogi State, the same hometown of the former Governor of old Oyo State, General Jemibewon.
The Skye Bank Chairman, stunned Nigerians and indeed the world when he single-handedly donated N2b to support the re-election bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
At the Service of Song, Our Correspondent saw Guests thronging the lawyer turned Business Tycoon to greet him and perhaps to schedule an appointment to see him later.
All smiles Ayeni, who was earlier in the day mistakenly listed as one of the chronic debtors to the FCMB, exchanged banters with almost everyone that accosted him including the children of the deceased.
Ayeni is regarded as one of the few Nigeria’s Billionaires who benefitted immensely under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
In 2011, the 48 years old Billionaire became chairman of Skye Bank,[1] which was formed in 2005 when five commercial banks (including Bond Bank, which he founded in 2000) merged to create a new mega bank with a balance sheet in excess of ₦1 trillion.
Prior to his emergence as Skye Bank Board Chairman, in 2007, Ayeni became majority stakeholder and vice chairman of ASO Savings & Loans. He is also a founding partner and current vice chairman of Ocean Marine Security (OMS) which provides logistical support to the Nigerian Navy.
In 2013, as vice chairman of Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Ltd (IEDM), he led a successful bid to take control of the Ibadan and Yola Electricity Distribution Companies. This marked the first privatization of a national energy asset in Nigerian history.[2] He is also chairman of JKK (Nigeria) Plc and Temple Resources Ltd, and sits on the boards of PPP Fluid Mechanics Limited and Hightech Procurement Limited.
