The former Vice Presidential Candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN Mr Fola Adeola has risen in defence of the former Governor of Lagos State Mr Babatunde Fashola on allegations of infidelity in marriage and other sundry matters.
Adeola who was the Chairman at the Public Presentation of three books in honour of the former Governor stressed that the performance of Fashola in Lagos was outstanding.
He recalled how many states strove to emulate Fashola’s infrastructural development drive when he held sway as Governor of Lagos for eight years.
Apparently, referring to the alleged gang-up against the former Governor, Adeola assured him that he had friends who will stand by him through his trials. He described Guests who turned up for the event as brave allies.
Fashola is currently battling to remain relevant in the political quarters in Lagos after he left office on May, 29, 2015. It was learnt that powerful elements in the APC who were angry with his leadership style and his affront to upstage the National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the build up to the 2015 Governorship election in Lagos are going for broke to reduce him(Fashola)politically.
Fashola backed Supo Sasore, his former Commissioner of Justice against Tinubu’s candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode. After the immediate past Governor of Lagos lost out in the power play, he mend fence with his political Godfather, Asiwaju Tinubu and led a vibrant state-wide campaign for Ambode.
The belated, last minute effort was however welcome. Unfortunately, the alleged treacherous act of Fashola was what the lieutenants of Tinubu and supporters of incumbent Akinwunmi Ambode vowed not to forget.
The rift became prominent at yesterday’s at Book launch held at Muson, Onikan, Lagos. National Executives of the APC, Commissioners, Serving and ex-Governors, Lagos Council Executive Secretaries, not even a Councillor from Fashola’s constituency, Surulere showed up to honour him.
The ex-Governor could only galvanize about former five appointees who served with him. They are: Mrs Oworu, Wale Edun, Joe Igbokwe, Sanwo-Olu , others are members of the Civil Societies, Journalists and families and well-wishers.
Fashola who feigned not to be bothered by the turn-out, took time to remind the people of milestone achievements of his administration especially the controlled demolition of partially collapsed Skyscraper located on the popular Broad Street in Lagos.
