The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has thrown his support behind the former governor of Ekiti State, Engineer Segun Oni to clinch the party governorship ticket , COMPLETE NEWS can authoritatively report.
It was also gathered that a frontline contender, Senator Babafemi Ojudu and about 27 other aspirants who withdrew from the race last Thursday, 48 hours to the rescheduled fresh primaries did do so on the directive of Tinubu.
An impeccable source who was privy to the grand plan to cut former governor Kayode Fayemi to size told this medium that Tinubu will be deploring his resources to ensure that Oni whose financial capacity could not match Fayemi, a serving minister in Buhari’s government.
The botched last Saturday APC primaries was believed to be in favour of Fayemi who was alleged to have induced large chunk of the delegates with mouth watering, irresistible offers.
Fayemi accused Ojudu and another top contender, Bimbo Daramola of desperation alleging they were behind the disruption of the process which primed him as the ultimate winner.
Meanwhile, further findings by COMPLETE NEWS had reviewed why influential Tinubu settled for Oni against Fayemi whom he supported in 2014 Ekiti governorship election. It was gathered that Tinubu was yet to forgive Fayemi on the role he allegedly played alongside other political actors tagged ‘Abuja Boys’ in the enthronement of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the standard bearer of APC in Ondo State.
It was gathered that Tinubu believed it will be politically suicidal for him if he allows Fayemi to return as governor of Ekiti State having lost control over Ondo, Ogun states and Oyo where he is battling for control of structures.
For Tinubu, victory will be fait accompli for Fayemi in the governorship election once he clinches the party ticket because of the support from the federal and states within the southwest region and others sympathetic to Abuja course, therefore, he wants to stop him in the tracks.
