The Danish Embassy has engaged a renowned law firm, ALP (Africa Law Practice) to handle the case of alleged murder preferred against a Danish Peter Nielsen.
Recall that a 53 year old Nielson was alleged to have killed his aspiring singer wife Zainab Joy Nielsen, with the stage name of‘Alizee’ and their three and a half year old daughter, Petra Nielsen at the Banana Island home on April 7, 2018.
Mr Olasupo Shasor (SAN), an erudite lawyer who is also a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos is the lead counsel in the defence team.
Expectedly, Nielsen’s case will attract huge media coverage and the attendant sensationalism. The reasons for this are obvious. The world would be watching with keen interest the proceedings in the High Court of Lagos with the view to know if Nigeria’s criminal justice system has come of age.
Nielson’s case reminiscent of the of the famous Amanda Knox trial of a US citizen in Italy who wrongfully spent years in prison.
Already, the case is generating massive news interest in Denmark, Nielsen’s home country, and amongst the very large expatriate community residing in Nigeria. Reports suggest that a lot of people in Denmark and beyond are keenly following this case, to see how the Nigerian criminal justice system will stand up to scrutiny.
