The Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State has suspended no fewer than 10 of its prominent members in the Udu Local Government Area of the state over alleged anti-party activities.
The affected members were subsequently referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for further investigation.
This was contained in a statement signed by the PDP Ward 9 Chairman, Efete Okolosi, and Secretary, Harvest Waka, respectively, after an emergency ward meeting held at the Orhuwhorun community, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday.
“All were involved in anti-party activities wherein they openly supported and worked for Chief Ovie Omo-Agege (the Deputy Senate President) while at the same time disseminating false and malicious allegations against some executives, leaders, and members of the PDP Ward 9 and thereby causing serious disaffection among members of the PDP,” the statement read.
It added, “The PDP Ward 9 passed a vote of no confidence on the aforementioned persons, and they were suspended in line with Section 58(II) of the PDP Constitution.
“The suspension is hereby approved, and their conduct is referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and recommendation.”
The party leadership decried the incessant attacks on the party’s leaders from Orhuwhorun Ward 9.
They specifically condemned the “unwarranted attack on the member representing Udu Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Peter Uviejitobor, by hoodlums and thugs at legislative quarters, Asaba.”
They also condemned the “illegal suspension” of the Councillor representing DSIEC Ward 15, Oscar Okoro, and the Councillor representing DSIEC Ward 16, Queen Riendure.
They call on the leadership of the Udu Legislative Arm to, without further delay, reverse its decision on the suspension of the two Councillors from the Orhuwhorun community.
