The Spanish government has condoned with the families of those who died in last Saturday’s stampede at a church’s vigil in Uke, Anambra. Death toll has risen to 46.
A statement issued by the Spanish Foreign Ministry in Madrid, and circulated by the country’s embassy in Abuja, on Monday expressed the hope that the incident would not truncate the Nov. 16 governorship election in the state.
The statement further reaffirmed Spain’s support for Nigeria, describing the country as “a fundamental partner for development and stability in West Africa’’.
It would be recalled that the tragic incident occurred at dawn on Saturday during an open-air vigil at the Holy Ghost Adoration Centre, Uke, Idemili South Local Council Area of Anambra.
