It was a carnival of sort at the popular Eko Club in Surulere venue of the 17th edition of the quarterly town Hall meeting of Senator representing Lagos Central, Chief Mrs Oluremi Tinubu. Constituents, ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, community leaders, royal fathers were among the dignitaries that graced the colorful occasion.
Tinubu, in her usual style, arrived the venue around 7:30 am, for the programme that was billed to start by 9:00 am. She personally welcomed the Guests who had turned out for her occasion.
Notable dignitaries at the Town Hall meeting include: Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, a top APC leader, Hon Jide Jimoh, a Federal House of Representatives member among others.
In her speech titled, ‘ From Dreams to Reality – A Call to Duty’, Tinubu gave account of her stewardship at the upper chamber of the National Assembly. The wife of the National Leader of the ruling party also charged women to get more active in politics by contesting for elective positions.
The Lawmaker informed that she alongside other 107 progressives Senators moved a motion on the chronic gridlock on the Apapa Expressway. “The motion was deliberated upon extensively. Resolution has been forwarded to the appropriate agency for adequate attention. Several motions were also presented” , she said.
In line with the agitation for conferring a special status on Lagos State being the commercial nerve centre of the country, Tinubu said she had sponsored a bill for establishment of Lagos State Special Economic Assistance Programme 2015. According to her, “The bill has passed the first reading and I shall continue to do the follow-up and adequate monitoring on the affairs of the Bill. It is a Bill that if passed, will bring financial relief to the Lagos State Government”.
The Senator, who chairs the Senate Committee, Women Affairs, reiterated her commitment to the social economic advancement of her constituents. The lawmakers donated tricycles popular called Keke Marwa , monetary assistance to unemployed youths and Pepper grinding machines to some indigent women within the Senatorial district.
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, while commissioning the empowerment items called on beneficiaries to appreciate the gesture by making judicious use of the items.
