Police on Wednesday morning fired teargas at Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos.
The action was to disrupt the protest staged by PWD at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The protesters caused a gridlock on roads connecting to the Stadium.
According to PWD, the protest is as a result of their exclusion from the 2022 National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Delta State.
“This protest is because they excluded some disabled persons from sporting event. The protests started yesterday. It was yesterday that they submitted their letter of protest to the security personnel. They didn’t wait for the management to ascertain it before 24 hours elapses before they started. That was how protest started
“On asking why they called police on us, we spoke to one of the directors at the stadium and she was saying that assuming they locked the stadium that nobody should come in, it would have been better but the protesters blocked roads, thereby obstructing business and causing traffic. That invited police into this. Hoodlums joined them too. And when things like this is not controlled, it might get out of hand, ” he said.
