Nigeria’s Vice-President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode , the Presiding Bishop of TREM, Mike Okonkwo, Pastor GO Olutola, President, the Apostolic Church and other dignitaries joined Pastor Williams Folorunsho Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible church in Lagos today to commission a multi-billion Naira ultra modern church auditorium reputed to be 4th largest in the world.
Osinbajo who serenaded over 40,000 Deeperlife members, include guests who had gathered for the historic commissioning recalled how the church had been steadfast in what it believes over the years.
The 30,000 capacity auditorium is an architectural masterpiece equipped with state of the art furniture, sound system, elevator, multi-layer car park among other facilities.
The professor of law, who is also a senior pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God declared the occasion marked one of his happiest moments as Christians. “ This is one of the proudest moments for me as a Christian’, Osinbajo declared as Christian faithful applauded.
He said, “ This is not just a nice edifice but a worldclass edifice built with cutting edge facilities. For some of us who once lived in the area and saw how the Gbagada Headquarters of the Deeper Life church has transformed can only say that the glory of the latter temple is greater than the former”
Osinbajo said knowing the values and antecedence of Kumuyi and Deeper life Church, that the project was not self-serving but rather to glorify God and the furtherance of the advancement of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Vice-president alerted the Christians to be vigilant in this end time. He urged them to intense the execution of the mandate of Jesus Christ in Matthew 16: 15- 16 that they should go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
He reckoned the growing persecution of Christians and the organized campaign to curtail the spread of the gospel. He however declared that Christianity will continue to wax strong.
“There is a growing persecution of Christians in the world today. Let me tell you, there is no person born of or yet to be born that can stop the gospel of lord Jesus Christ.
Osinbajo urged Christian leaders to shun purveyors of hate speeches saying that some elements wanted the hate speeches to be preached on the pulpits which he said it will fail. He urged the church to continue to pray for Christians in the positions of authority saying governance is a spiritual welfare.
He described Kumuyi as a man of uncommon humility, integrity who is committed to the preaching of the undiluted word of God.
In his own remarks, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who was represented by the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation hailed the exemplary leadership of Kumuyi and described the project as the handiwork of a mighty God.
Kumuyi while sharing his thoughts said the project was in furtherance of the mandate of Jesus in Matthew 16: 15 which he called the thoughts of Christ. In his short exhortation, the founder of Deeperlife encapsulated his teaching saying there was divine proclamation, promise, preservation and power.
He said the power of God in the church is at effective as ever urging worshippers to keep their trust in God’s power to deliver them from all obstacles of life.
Deeper Life Bible Church like a mustard seed grew from a few members, less than 20 in 1973 when Brother William Folorunsho Kumuyi, a Mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos started the fellowship on campus.
76 year-old Kumuyi who was 32 in 1973 when he started the ministry came into limelight with his firebrand doctrines that run contrary to the mainstream Christianity doctrines. He remains constant on his holiness and righteousness teachings despite intense criticisms. His church members became known through their modest dressing and lifestyle.
At the risk of being described as anti-social Deeper Life members are castigated as being extremists who are getting crazy about their faith. In the early rumours were rife that deeperlife members had stopped watching television.
