The massive mobilization for December 10 official public presentation of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship in Ogun State, Senator Buruji Kashamu and his deputy, Reuben Abati, a former media to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan will obvious pose great obstacle to the ambition of Mr Dapo Abiodun, the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the State, COMPLETENEWS has learnt.
Kashamu is the incumbent senator representing Ogun East which comprises, Ijebu, Remo, Sagamu, Ogijo among others in the senate. The controversial politician defeated Abiodun who ran for the senatorial seat in 2015.
COMPLETENEWS gathered that Peoples Democratic Party is the party in Ogun East. It is regarded as the secured territory of the main opposition party. Moreso, Kashamu through his Omo-Ilu Foundation had a sustained history of given charity to the less-priviledged in the area which ostensibly endear him to them.
Aside, Kashamu’s philanthrophy, Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state elected on the platform of the PDP is also said to have well-oiled formidable structures which are usually deployed for the party at every election year.
The APC candidate, Abiodun also is a man of immense influence on the account of his warchest. The billionaire oil-magnate has no problem spending more to curry favour and build support base. He was reported to have one time gave the incumbent government a whopping , $1m (One million dollar) to prosecute his campaign.
No doubt, money will play a critical role in the Ogun governorship race but there are other complementary logistics which towers above money in elections.
Amosun’s Open Objection, Loyalists’ Defection Nail Abiodun’s Fate
Abiodun’s precarious fate is further compounded by the open opposition of the incumbent governor Ibikunle Amosun to his candidature. The governor’s preferred man is AbdulKabir Adenekan, a serving member of the House of Representatives and other loyalists of the governor in the Ogun State House of Assembly to Allied Peoples’ Movement.
Though, Amosun had insisted that he remains a staunch member of the ruling party and committed to the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, it is almost certain that Amosun can never work for Abiodun.
The governor still wields enormous influence in the party with army of loyalists and supporters who are ready to do his biddings. The sentiment of Yewa agenda which Amosun has been championing will further be a factor in the forthcoming election.
