The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, has expressed readiness to conduct by-elections in Oshodi-Isolo and Agea areas of the state on Saturday.
The by-elections would hold in Ward ‘B’, Ogunoloko and Ward ‘B’, Dopemu in the Oshodi-Isolo and Agege local government areas of the state respectively, following the death of the former occupants of the councillorship seats in the areas.
LASIEC Chairman, Ayotunde Phillips, at a news conference on Thursday at the commission’s office in Yaba, said the commission was working with relevant security agencies and other stakeholders, including traditional rulers in the affected areas to ensure security of lives and property before, during and after the elections.
She, however, warned that anybody who attempted to scuttle the exercise would face the full wrath of the law.
She said, “I want to assure you that the commission is fully prepared for the conduct of the by-elections. The training of the ad hoc personnel who will participate in the elections has already been concluded and they have been mandated to be civil and courteous to voters, election observers and party agents in the course of performing their duties as election officials.”
