The Court of Appeal today affirmed the verdict of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal. The Tribunal had earlier upheld the declaration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in the state.
Ambode had polled 811,994 votes to beat Agbaje who garnered 659,788 votes.
Justice Muhammad Sijaro-led tribunal had on July 1, 2015 declared Mr Jimi Agbaje’s case of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as incompetent and struck it out.
The five-man appeal panel, after dismissing Agbaje’s appeal on the grounds of incompetence, ordered him to compensate each of the respondents in the sum of N50,000 each.
