The Chairman of the Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG , Hon. Olawale Oshun has accused Jonthan-led Federal Government of maligning the Yoruba nation in the scheme of things in the country.
Oshun argued that Jonathan had not been fair to the region in the allocations of resources and other infrastructural projects. The Afenifere chieftain also observed with dismay that eminently qualified sons and daughters of the region are hardly spotted in the topmost positions in the current administration.
‘ARG has engaged in consultations in the last few months and Yoruba people have come to a firm conclusion that they have been on the shorter end of the stick under the Jonathan-led Government. This is an administration that has maligned and disproportionately disadvantaged Yoruba people in the distribution of resources, infrastructure and positions in government such that Yoruba persons are scatty among the first 40 positions in Nigeria”, Oshun lamented.
The ARG Chairman disclosed in his short address titled, ‘The Change We Demand’ delivered on his behalf by the Assistant National Secretary of ARG, Dr Ade Adeagbo yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
He also scored the current administration low in areas like economy, resource distribution, inequality, infrastructural development and corruption.
According to him, the people are of the region are eager for change because the PDP-Led Government has sacrificed equity among ethnic nationalities just for selfish political gains.
He said, ‘Yoruba people are asking questions that deserve our attention and poignant answers. Part of the answer is an insistence that the change that must occur must include some assurances that never again should the issue of equity among Nigerian nationalities be blatantly sacrificed as this federal government has done.
“Yoruba people never sought to colonise any other nationality, it will therefore not allow itself to be marginalized by any other”.
On the dwindling oil revenue earnings, Oshun expressed confidence that the region will remain afloat through focus on human capability development which according to him will culminate into, ‘economic resource and capital, revival of agriculture, maximizing our abundant natural resources and establishing institutions that support the management and sustenance of these towards the social economic well-being of our people’.
Oshun therefore called on the All Progressives Congress, APC Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari to public assure the nation that his administration if voted into power will restructure the nation and devolve powers to the most efficient federating units.
