Following the conclusion of all litigations against the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Coalition for Democracy In Nigeria (CODIN) has called on the president to ensure delivery of good governance.
CODIN, in a statement by its president, Comrade Mashood Erubami, congratulating President Tinubu over his victory in the court, said the time of politics was over and that Nigerians are expecting impacting governance in the country.
The Supreme Court had on Thursday, October 26, nullified the petitions of candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Alhaji Abubakar, Atiku and the Labour Party, Peter Obi respectively and upheld the INEC declaration of President Tinubu as the elected President of the country.
In his counsel, Erubami, who noted that Nigeria could be set on the right path, urged the President to Erubami to set new standards for working with the 10th legislative assembly to fight for a good economy, fight against insurgency, against corruption, human rights infringements and abuse of rule of law in all its ramifications.
He said that the reaffirmation of President Tinubu’s election against all the opposition pleas in their petitions represent an untainted electoral and educational eligibility with new found personal integrity.
The group noted that the firmness of the Supreme Court and other court judgments in resolving the disagreements among politicians that participated in the 25th February 2023 election has brought up a new agenda for renewed hope and that represents a strong call on the government for more works on its part to fashion new processes for good governance, which will promote equity, fairness and justice in the land.
He said: “The pro-democracy group claimed that people’s expectations from the affirmed presidency are resident on the trust and confidence on the new government hence it must create an atmosphere of good living, wellness and unity among the people in actualisation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended especially in sections 14(2b), wherein it states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
“In addition, President Tinubu should commence working assiduously to renew citizens’ hope firmly in the context of his oath of allegiance while all motions and bills from the National Assembly should be adhered to in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, wellbeing, and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“President Tinubu must as a matter of urgency, commence his mandate delivery with the urgent introduction of how the revenue allocation formulae will be reviewed to reduce the wide gap of monthly allocations between the three arms of government given that the amount accruing to the Federal Government is presently on the high side, a big factor that has created economic strangulation in the states.
“The President should assist his government through bringing the post-election victory speech on May 25, 2023 into fruition, extending the hand of friendship to some of those who contested election with him, particularly picking the best cabinet partners from labour, civil society and the major opposition party whom he referred to as his compatriots so as to form an all-inclusive cabinet that can drive his new project models.”
The group further calls on the President to direct his attention on new ministers to ensure that they focus on the specific areas of the set mantra of road/rail infrastructure, education, agriculture, poverty eradication,
inclusion of youths/women, while fighting against corruption and insecurity.
According to the group, the President’s victory as reaffirmed by the Supreme Court 26th October 2023 judgment must be used to serve the people better, reiterating that the only way to satisfy the aspiration of the people is to demonstrate a renewed capacity for hope and assured performance that will earn greatness for the country towards reaffirming strong commitment to end corruption.
