Nigeria’s Daniel Akpeyi has revealed that the Super Eagles gave their best during their training tour to the United Arab Emirates.
In the Asian country, Goal.com recalled that Nigeria lost 1-0 to Cote d’Ivoire before beating Yemen 2-0 in Dubai. According to the Warri Wolves goalkeeper, the experience was a good one for the team and will have a positive impact on their career.
He noted that days when a team could be regarded as minnow are over stating that his side could have lost to Yemen if they had been underrated.
“We thank God that we are back and we have done our best to ensure that Nigeria is not disgraced,” Akpeyi told Goal.
“We gave a good account of ourselves against Ivory Coast and we were unlucky to lose to the Ivoirians while we ended our campaign with a win against Yemeni national team.
“We heard reports from the country that Yemen are no opposition and that we ought to play a better opponent.
“If you watch that game you would agree with me that they stretched us to the limit in the game. We are happy that we travelled for the trip and the experience we got will be of help to us later on,” he concluded.
Akpeyi revealed he would return to his club and see how far they have gone with their preparation for the Super Six and the Caf Confederation Cup adding that he would like to make 2015 memorable both the national team and his club.
