The presence of the embattled governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje at inauguration of Gboyega Oyetola on Tuesday in Osogbo has no value whatsoever rather it constitutes another burden to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the southwest.
Though, Ganduje has not been convicted over the alleged bribery of about $5m which was purportedly captured in series of videos, but perception is more important than reality in politics especially as the nation goes to poll in 2019.
Southwest as a politically sophisticated region, the ruling party ought to know better that certain characters within its fold must be managed with caution in order not to offend the sensibilities of the people of the region.
Ganduje could be have been invited by his in-law, the governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi to the inauguration which is allowed but not to the podium with other party bigwigs.
What political or electoral value would public show of Ganduje confer on the APC in southwest? Can Ganduje confidently canvass for votes for the party in Kano and sway mass voters not to talk of southwest.
The governor’s presence in Osun on Tuesday further cast doubt on the anti-graft drive of the APC-led government which is one of the greatest achievements that the party is selling to earn a re-election in 2019.
