The Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr James Folorunso, stressed the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration’s commitment quality jobs, saying such would stand test of time and make positive impact on the lives of the people.
Folorunso, who is also a Special Adviser to the governor, spoke in Ado Ekiti on Saturday while monitoring some ongoing projects including the Ekiti State International Centre for Arts and Culture, Revenue Building, Indoor Sports and House of Assembly Complex renovation works.
He said, “This present government led by Governor Oyebanji believes in quality projects. We won’t allow any contractor to use substandard materials and that’s why we give them close monitoring on every milestone from foundation level to finishing stage.”
The special adviser, who expressed satisfaction with the jobs done so far, charged the contractors to expedite actions to meet up with the target deadlines for the projects.
He said that the monitoring exercise was part of the Bureau’s statutory duties to ensure that the state got value for money on projects by ascertaining the quality and level of work done before recommending payment to the contractors.
Folorunso said, “Our Bureau monitors government projects particularly before we issue Certificates of Payment for release of funds. It is important to ensure compliance with the set standards. We need to move to sites and physically see what is being done as we can’t just sit in the office and rely on submitted papers on the project and this is what we are doing here today”.
