The protests over the continued detention of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky continued today as Shiite youths reportedly clashed with policemen and grounded the Federal Secretariat complex, Abuja.
The youths, who were said to be armed with stones, chased away a police team and overturned a traffic warden cabin on the road.
They also reportedly injured the Federal Secretariat Divisional Police Crime officer in the face after he asked them to stop harassing motorists.
Chanting “Free El-Zakyzaky,” the Shiite members dared the Police to engage and dislodge them.
The Shiite leader has been incarcerated by the President Muhammadu Buhari government for more than two years.
Efforts to secure his release had been futile as the government rebuffed court order mandating his release.
