The Nigerian media industry was today thrown into sorrow as the death of a veteran journalist and Publisher of Bravo Magazine Mr Dada Eriye was announced.
According to reports, Eriye died in the evening of Wednesday, 18th February, 2015 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
On Saturday, 14th February, 2015, at about 11.30pm, Eriye was severely injured in a domestic accident, suffering a first degree burn after his generator exploded while he was fuelling it.
He was first rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and rejected by the doctors there.
They advised he should be taken to Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital, Lagos. At Igbobi, the hospital said they have just fumigated the hospital, so they cannot admit him. He was then taken to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) at about 2.00am, early Sunday, 15th February, 2015.
At LUTH, they said they have no bed so they couldn’t treat him. The patient was left for hours unattended to at LUTH.
After much begging and crying by those who took him there, the hospital demanded for N250,000 to be paid at that hour before admission.
Those who took him there started another round of crying and begging again that they would bring the money when bank opens by Monday morning.
Sources revealed he has been unconscious and on life support machine at LUTH since then until he finally gave up the ghost at about 9.30 pm on Wednesday, 18th February, 2015.
Before establishing the Bravo weekly magazine, Eriye had edited City People and News of the People magazines. He also worked at Fame and Tempo magazines
