The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, has ordered relevant operational and investigative units of the command to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of Sunday night’s killings in Awka, the state capital.
The directive followed a two-hour closed-door meeting Ama held with the command’s strategic and operational officers on Monday to reassess information from the public, particularly within Awka, following the killings of a media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Azia Nwosu” and another person by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The CP also paid a condolence visit to Nwosu’s family as part of efforts to assess the security situation in the area.
During the visit, Ama described the late Nwosu as an asset to the family and the state, adding that his contributions to the development of the state would be greatly missed.
He reassured the family and residents of the state that the command would pursue the matter with determination and urged residents to continue to believe in the integrity of the force and the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Recall that Nwosu and another unidentified person were gunned down by yet-to-be-identified assailants on Sunday along S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, and Capital City Road, Amaenyi, Awka, respectively.
The reason for the killings has yet to be ascertained, while the incidents have created tension in the area, with security operatives beefing up security.
Speaking further after the visit, the CP said the two-hour closed-door strategic meeting with the command’s strategic and operational officers was part of ongoing efforts to reassess information from the public, especially within Awka.
He said, “The meeting is aimed at strengthening security operations and sustaining the fight against violent crime, and to intensify efforts towards identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
“We also paid a condolence visit to the family of late Isaac Nwosu, who lost his life in a recent security incident in Awka.
“The late Isaac Nwosu popularly known as Azia was an asset to the State. He will be greatly missed not only by the family, but also by the State, Anambra State Police Command, especially for his service during the Command security advocacy as well as other sundry
“To this end, the relevant operational and investigative units have been directed to intensify efforts towards identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
“We reassured the family and residents of Anambra State that the Command would pursue the matter with determination and while urging Ndi Anambra to keep believing in the integrity of the force and investigative preceding over the unfortunate incident.”
