Akwa Ibom State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has warned the National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to watch his utterances.
The Party described Mohammed’s comments on Akwa Ibom State governorship election petition matter before the tribunal as unfounded.
In a statement by the state Chairman of the PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, the Party condemned the alleged outlandish statements credited to Alhaji Mohammed in his briefing in Abuja, where he faulted the recent solidarity visit to Akwa Ibom State by the national leadership of the PDP over the DSS raid on the state’s Government House.
Obong Ekpo berated the intrusion by Lai Mohammed into a matter he had no business in, as the visit of the PDP to one of the states it controls, was within the rights of the leaders and stakeholders of the party.
On the pending election dispute before the tribunal, PDP warned Lai Mohammed, to refrain from making perceived unguarded statements and claims over a matter which is subjudice and which he knew little or nothing about, noting that apportioning blame or indicting the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and its officials amounted to jumping the gun and engaging in unnecessary media trial.
Ekpo said: “Our people are still expecting the DSS to explain its mission to their seat of authority, and except Lai Mohammed wants to assume the role of the DSS spokesman, he should know when to mind his own business and stick to the role which his office permits him and desist from his rude intrusion into the affairs of Akwa Ibom State or the PDP.
The PDP restated its implicit confidence in the integrity of the tribunal to deliver a fair verdict and not yield to alleged “subtle innuendoes, manipulations, propaganda and insinuations of the petitioners in the determination of the case. If there is a party that has lost faith in the judiciary, it is the APC.
