The dreaded Boko Haram terrorist sect has seized Chibok and Gwoza in Borno State. According to sources, the terrorists captured the towns around 4pm on Thursday.
An eyewitness in Chibok, the home of more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the terrorists in April said the soldiers stationed in the town gave the Boko Haram fighters a good fight but withdrew when they ran out of ammunition.
According to the eyewitness: “There were about 300 soldiers who confronted the terrorists numbering about 1000. While the fighting was on, the military alerted the residents to leave the town. The soldiers fought bravely till they ran out of ammunition after which they withdrew. By the time the terrorists rode into the town, most of the residents had fled.”
The fleeing residents confirmed to the BBC that the terrorists attacked and took control of the town on Thursday evening.
Maina Abga, another resident of Chibok said: “The sect members stormed the community, shooting indiscriminately. They rode into the town in a convoy of about hilux vehicles barely an hour after military troops left.
We started hearing gunshots and shouts of Allah Akbar (Allah is great) as soon as they entered the town. We had to take to our heels.”
He said the sect members also burnt down some houses in the town.
The terrorists also attacked Gwoza on Thursday killing sixteen persons before seizing the town.
