The Federal Capital Territory Administration has officially opened the Waru-Pozema District in Cadastral Zone D16, with plans to equip the area with essential infrastructure to attract residents and developers.
The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, made the announcement on Thursday after touring multiple projects across the territory.
Speaking to journalists, Wike said the administration would coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure the district is ready for development.
“About the new district of Waru-Pozema in Cadastral Zone D16, we have to find out from the FCDA or the coordinator what they have in mind, whether it is in the 2026 budget.
“Don’t worry, we will do everything we can to provide the needed infrastructure and open up the district so that people can move in,” he said.
During the inspection, the minister expressed satisfaction with ongoing judicial projects, including the Court of Appeal complex, which contractors have promised to complete by May. Judges’ quarters, including those for the Federal High Court, are already furnished and ready for use.
“The project comprises 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 duplexes for the FCT High Court and another 10 duplexes for the Court of Appeal.
“These facilities will be inaugurated during the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office,” Wike said.
Wike also visited a major road under construction in Katampe, describing it as functioning like a ring road.
He praised the contractor, China Geo-Engineering Corporation, for maintaining quality and timeliness.
“It’s one of those companies—when they give you their word, you can go to the bank with it,” he said, noting the administration’s close supervision of the project.
Explaining his personal commitment to monitoring development projects, Wike said, “For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment, you have no choice but to be committed to the job.”
Turning to national politics, Wike emphasised the need for unity within the Peoples Democratic Party.
“Reconciliation within the party must come first before discussions about future electoral strategies,” he said, expressing optimism that the party can remain competitive if members are sincere in their efforts.
He added that attention is currently focused on the party’s upcoming convention.
Abuja, the nation’s capital, has been undergoing deliberate urban expansion and infrastructure development under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
The FCTA, led by Wike, has prioritised new districts, upgraded road networks, and public facilities to improve connectivity, attract residents and investors, and ease pressure on the city centre.
These projects are part of a strategic plan to modernise the capital, enhance living standards, and stimulate economic activity, reflecting the federal government’s broader goals of planned urban growth and sustainable development across both central and satellite communities of the FCT.
