Akinluyi Akintunde an Agronomy undergraduate of Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, Oyo State on Tuesday bagged 3 years imprisonment without an option of fine for swindling an American of $450 (N72, 000). Justice Akintunde Abass at the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan delivered the judgment.
Akintunde, 24 was reportedly arraigned before the court on March 13, 2013 on a two count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence. He allegedly obtained the sum of $450.00 from Robert Jackson, an America via western Union Money Transfer under a false pretense that he was a lady.
Justice Abass ruled the sum of $450 recovered from the convict be returned to the victim, through United State consulate. Akintunde will also forfeit laptop recovered from him during arrest toFederal Government.
Akintunde conviction is coming on the heel of several arrests of internet scammers who are mostly Students of higher institutions. Recently, some internet scammers were arrested at the highbrow 1004 flats Victoria Island Lagos by security operatives.
