There is apprehension in Ikorodu and Shagamu axis of Ogun state as plans are allegedly being perfected to release from prison custody an alleged dreaded land speculator and enforcer, Otunba kamorudeen Lamina a.k.a Sir K. Oluwo
Lamina, who is being remanded in prison custody on the order of his Lordship, Mr. Ojikutu of the Sagamu Chief Magistrate Court, pending the advice of the DPP on a four-count charge of conspiracy to murder, murder, unlawful possession of firearms and armed robbery in suit number MSH/289c/2019.
A source hinted to our correspondent that what was strange and worrisome in the issue were the surreptitious and devious moves by some highly placed politicians, Police jobbers and pseudo businessmen, who are beneficiaries of Lamina’s patronage, to exert undue pressure on the system with a view to influencing the course of justice in favor of the Ijebu waterside-born land grabber.
“No sooner was he ordered to be remanded in prison than he was chauffeured-driven in an unregistered luxurious car out of the court premises with police vehicles on his tow,” the source told our correspondent.
Continuing, the source revealed that even in prison, Lamina was said to be bragging that he has the necessary human and material resources to quash all the charges preferred against him to make him walk away a free man at the adjourned date.
He keeps boasting of his closeness to Senator Bayo Oshinowo, a serving senator of the Federal Republic as his godfather, bragging that with Senator Oshionowo on his side, no finger would be lifted against him.
Senator Oshinowo it was gathered has initiated a discussion with a Director in the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ogun State to see that Lamina is promptly set free totally from the case for which he has been accused.
It has equally been alleged that one chief from Ogun state, who is a socialite with offices in Lagos and Abuja is also playing a major role inthe agenda to make Lamina walk out of the court at the next adjourned date, a free man.
On his part, the chief is said to have over the years rendered uncharitable services to Lamina such standing as surety for him occasionally whenever he runs afoul of the law.
Meanwhile, lamina’s supporters are all over the place bellowing arrogantly to whoever cares to listen that no prison is big enough to contain their boss even as they boast that he would soon be left off the hook. They readily drop the name of a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Lagos State, Senator Bayo Oshinowo, as his godfather and boasted that he, Oshinowo has initiated a discussion with the Director of Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ogun State which will facilitate Lamina’s prompt release from prison,” our source hinted.
Independent investigations further affirm that there is indeed a relationship between Lamina and Senator Bayo Oshinowo dating back to his days as the chairman of Somolu local government. The former actually ran an open campaign for Senator Oshinowo during the just concluded 2019 general elections. There are also ample evidence to show that Lamina hoisted Senator Oshinowo’s banners in his office and residential house respectively and even sponsored the printings of some of his campaign materials such as posters, fliers, T-shirts and caps.
When contacted on telephone confirm his relationship with lamina and the role he is alleged to be playing to ensure freedom for lamina the Ogun state born Chief told our correspondent that he has no knowledge of the case. He however confirmed that he knew Lamina, but not closely and wondered how he could possibly facilitate his release when he is neither the court nor the police.
Meanwhile, Senator Bayo Oshinowo did not pick his calls when contacted; neither did he reply the text message sent to his line as at the time of filing of filing this report.
While responding to questions bothering on the alleged plan to release Lamina and why it took Ogun state police this long to arrest and prosecute Lamina, despite the series of cases against him by the police, the Ogun state Police Public relations officer (PPRO) Abimbola Oyeyemi said it was because most of the court injunctions against him were from Lagos and they were not served on Ogun Police command. He added that what played out on 20th August at the Shagamu Magistrate Court was the outcome of the decision of DPP, Ogun State to co-opt the police into the matter.
“What played out on 20th August at the Shagamu Magistrate Court was the outcome of the decision of DPP, Ogun State to co-opt the police into the matter. And that was why the police quickly hunted, arrested and charged him to court,” Oyeyemi said. He added that on allegations of complicity by the police in Lamina’s matter, it was not true but stressed that since nobody was above the law no matter how highly placed, arrests and prosecution may tarry as a result of complex investigations but at the fullness of time, the law must take its course.
For the record, Kamorudeen Lamina was arrested and charged to court on August 20th 2019 for criminal offence bordering on murder, illegal possession of firearms, kidnapping and armed robbery.
