The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four persons along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital.
Ayanlade said coordinated search and rescue operations were ongoing to secure the victims’ release.
The statement read, “Four persons have been confirmed abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road.
“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officers of Kishi and Igbeti Divisions, supported by other tactical teams, to deploy all necessary operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the prompt arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
“Coordinated search and rescue efforts are currently underway, with security operatives combing the surrounding areas and intensifying intelligence gathering to track down the suspects.
“The command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urges members of the public to remain calm while providing any useful information that could assist ongoing operations.”
Our correspondent reports that the police recently foiled a bandit attack at Elebe Village, Aleniboro, in Atisbo Local Government Area, where two suspected gang members were neutralised.
The operation followed a tip-off from a resident who alerted security operatives to about 10 armed men hiding in a farm settlement in the community with plans to launch an attack under the cover of darkness.
Similarly, the command foiled a kidnap attempt at Olorunda Village in Ojongbodu, Oyo West Local Government Area, rescuing the victim, Haruna Lawal, who sustained a head injury during the incident.
