Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the tour of the 23 local government areas of the state, alleging that the programme was “driven by ill-conceived motive and attempt to intimidate and influence the electorate ahead the 2015 elections”.
The PDP said its criticism of the meetings between Amaechi and the people is a grand plan and action by the All Progressives Congress, APC, leadership in the state to publicise the party and to recruit political thugs and electoral mercenaries in the various LGAs.
The Party in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to Felix Obuah, the state party Chairman, wondered why Governor Amaechi has embarked on such a tour with seven months left of his administration’s life.
Buttressing its suspicion that Amaechi has an ulterior motive, PDP noted that from reports it got from the areas visited by the governor and his APC entourage, he has been asking the people to support the APC in coming elections in the state.
According to PDP, what the governor is doing is an open campaign by the APC using the Rivers State government platform and contravening the provisions of relevant sections of electoral guidelines, as provided in the nation’s electoral law.
