Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 general election.
Adeleke said the current crisis over the control of local government areas in the state won’t stop the earlier resolve to support Tinubu for another term in 2027.
This was contained in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday, signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to Rasheed, the governor made the declaration at a meeting held with members of his cabinet, Special Advisers and top government and party officials at the Government House, Osogbo.
Speaking further at the meeting, attended by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; governor Adeleke elder sister, Dupe Adeleke-Sanni; Osun Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun; Accord State Chairman, Mr. Victor Akande; commissioners, special advisers, and other state and party functionaries, Adeleke said the crisis rocking the local governments in Osun state has not affected endorsement of the President, which he first mentioned while still in the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said, “We have no problem with President Tinubu. He is our leader. He represents the South West. I restate our endorsement of Mr President for re-election in the best interest of the South West.
“I appreciate the Osun people for their mass embrace of Accord since I joined the party. Osun has become yellow and this is even spreading outside Osun’s borders. Our local chapters are running a weekly walk to live which is attracting thousands of participants.”
The statement further read, “I assure the Osun people of more delivery of democratic dividends. Our excellent performance so far will be redoubled when we get re-elected. In our new upgraded agenda, we are refocusing attention on youth, women and workers.
“We are consolidating on our gains in the infrastructure sector while we dwell more on agro-industrialisation and enhanced access to qualitative education and health services. We are set to triple our good job on good governance and delivery of democratic dividends.”
Directing his aides and other appointees to relaunch the Accord structures across the state through ongoing membership registration and roll-out mobilisation of voters across the 332 wards, the governor further said, “Go out and build on the popularity of Accord since we came on board. Solidify our hold on the grassroots.
“Flaunt our record of achievements across the local governments and get set for open campaign for victory on August 15th.”
Our correspondent reports that Adeleke and bigwigs of his former party, PDP, had endorsed President Tinubu for another term, even while he continued to engage the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Osun in a bitter struggle over the control of local government areas in the state.
Chairmen elected in the October 15, 2022, election conducted by the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola at the twilight of its tenure had taken charge of the council areas in the state since February, 2025.
In the crises caused by the struggle for the control of LGAs in the state, which pitched APC and members of PDP against each other, six people, including the then chairman of Irewole Local Government, Remi Abbas, were killed
The chairmen, who are mainly members of APC, held that the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure had returned them to office.
But the state government, on February 22, 2025, conducted another local government election, won by the candidates presented by the PDP.
The parties are currently before different courts seeking legal validation of their mandates.
