The prayers of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun State, Prince Iyiola Omisore that the victory of the winner, Rauf Agbesola should be nullified was dismissed by the Supreme court today.
While delivering their judgement, the seven-man panel of the apex court, led by Justice John Fabiyi, held that the concurrent judgments of the Court of Appeal in Akure and the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal, which upheld Aregbesola’s victory are valid.
The seven-man panel unanimously kicked against PDP candidate’s prayers saying it lacked merit.
Omisore’s counsel, Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN),had told the supreme court to quash the rulings of the appellate courts. Omisore who was apparently confident of getting victory at the Supreme court was present at the court.
It will be recalled that Omisore and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party had filed appeals against the decisions of the Justice Gana Mshelia-led panel of the Court of Appeal in Akure which on April 2, 2015, affirmed the earlier judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
