
Tragedy struck Tuesday morning in the Ikorodu area of Lagos as fully loaded cement truck belonging to Dangote lost break and rammed into a blue BRT bus heading out of Ikorodu killing many people and leaving scores severely injured.
The truck reportedly skidded off the main express and then collided with the bus on the BRT corridor at Ogolonto area of Ikorodu.
“Casualties have been taken to the hospital,” Lagos State Transport Management Authority said, adding that the two vehicles have been removed from the expressway.
However, the accident caused a long stretch of gridlock outward Ikorodu.
“Traffic backlog has extended to Oja bus stop for those coming from Ikorodu. The backlog is at Asolo for those going into Ikorodu,” LASTMA said.
An eye witness said, “On getting to the scene of incident, a dangote truck fully loaded with cement had a brake failure and had a head-on collision with a Primero blue Mass Transit bus with registration number LSR-228XS conveying 40 seated and 20 standing passengers.
“All passengers on board suffered various degrees of injuries with one female passenger losing her life and the driver suffered severe life threatening injuries with his leg totally decapitated.
“The combined efforts of the Agency’s Assets (Medical Unit, Tiger unit,Papa Eagle and Cobra unit) are on ground working alongside LNSC, Nigeria Police, FRSC and LASTMA to ease vehicular movement and ensure a swift recovery of the accidented truck. Recovery operation ongoing”.
