The news making rounds that there were plans to impeach Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state has been debunked by a member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Murphy Adigun-Ahmed.
Adigun-Hamed said the clarification was necessary to correct an impression making rounds that the House was planning to move a motion to impeach the governor.
The lawmaker who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria by telephone on Sunday said the assembly was rather focusing on its constitutional mandate of making laws to develop the state.
“We should be talking about moving the state forward; some people are just focusing on dragging us backward.
“APC has 18 out of 32 members, so how possible is it for them to impeach our governor, we know where this is coming from,’’ he said.
This is coming on the heels of impeachment moves sweeping across All Progressives Congress controlled states.
It would be recalled that former governor of Adamawa state Murtala Nyako was impeached last week and another APC governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa is struggling to keep his plum job. He has been served an impeachment notice.
