
Lagos Assembly has commend Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Sikiru Shotobi and all security agencies involved in the recovery of the abducted girls in Ikorodu.
It would be recalled that Lagos residents woke up to the shock of the news of the abduction of three students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu who were kidnapped from their school hostel in the middle of the night.
Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuosho who raised the issue under matter of urgent public importance enjoined her colleagues to join her in commending the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Owoseni for personally relocating to Ikorodu to ensure the girls are rescued. She expressed that “there is a disconnect which needs to be studied and eradicated so that such a menace will not repeat itself”.
Tejuosho also appreciated the efforts of the House of Assembly and the media for throwing their weight on the issue. She concluded that without necessary apparatus and enabling environment and support provided by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode the rescue mission would not have been effective. She opined that close circuit television should be installed in all schools.
The Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade who contributed added that the girls were rescued in Igbokuta, Imota Local Government Development Area of Ikorodu, explaining that the area in question has become a source of worry to the leaders of the community as criminal activities have been in the rise lately in the axis .
In the same vein, Gbolahan Yishawu and Yinka Ogundimu also said that the residents of Ikorodu should also be commended for supplying the necessary information that led to the rescue of the students and advised that security surveillance should be intensified in this riverine area.
Hon. Ibrahim Layode enjoined his colleagues to ensure strict performance of their oversight function especially in the education sector by visiting the schools in a bid to eradicate those that are not up to standard.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashir Obasa specially commended the leadership quality of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Sikiru Shotobi for deeming it fit to visit the school of the abducted girls. The Speaker added that Close Circuit Television(CCTV) should be installed in all public and private schools as a matter of necessity to stem activities of criminals while he concluded that State Police will be more necessary at this time and approval of state security personnel should be revisited and approved by the government.
