The Lagos State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party,PDP has warned vandals of campaign materials of its governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje to desist from the wicked act threatening that anyone caught henceforth will be severely dealth with.
This warning came following the destruction of Agbaje’s bill boards on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.
According to a statement issued today by Agbaje’s media aide, Felix Oboagwina the party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC of masterminding the defacing of the billbords.
The statement also pointed out instances when the APC had warned broadcast media houses and outdoor advertising agencies not to take adverts of the PDP candidate.
“Commuters and Motorists plying the Third Main land Bridge could not but be shocked on Friday 6th February 2015 when confronted by kilometre upon kilometre of defaced outdoor adverts belonging to Mr. Jimi Agbaje, the Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State. His face on the canvasses is tarred black. This evil act of vandalism has been carried out overnight, flushing good money down the drain.
“Clearly, the desecration bears the signature of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), whose body language, on- and off-rostrum, has been that of intolerance, intimidation, desperation and provocation. Not only has the APC government influenced broadcast stations and advertising agencies to reject advert placements and subscriptions from PDP, it continues to motivate its foot-soldiers to assault, deface and eclipse (with APC posters) the posters of opponents. APC leaders are also on record as making pronouncements that clearly threaten billboards, posters and banners of opposition parties.
“In fact, the Lagos State Advertising Agency (LASAA) had its Director-General address the Press a few days back to threaten advertising platforms used by politicians from other camps. Such levels of intolerance can only overheat the polity and provoke a backlash of wildcat reprisals.
“This latest abuse of Agbaje’s advertising materials, a brazen, unprovoked, unwarranted and desperate act of desecration, undertaken by APC agents, appears to be a scripted follow-up to the fetish-like placing of brooms on our displays. The broom is the insignia of the ruling party in Lagos.
“As everyone knows, Agbaje, the PDP flag-bearer in Lagos, plays a civil brand of politics, a characteristic that continues to attract massive support from Lagosians, who hunger for a change in the incumbent order. And Agbaje will simply not subscribe to reprisals and retaliation.
“However, Agbaje’s opponents must realise that simplicity does not signify stupidity.
“Henceforth, PDP and the Jimi Agbaje Campaign team shall defend our property. Anyone caught, or fingered, doing damage to PDP assets in Lagos will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law. We urge the police, the SSS, the DMI and other security agencies to do their job”, the party warned..
