Many arts enthusiasts and observers have continued to lambast Lagos State government over the errors noticeable on the 20 ft statue of late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo unveiled by Governor Ambode with funfare in Lagos yesterday.
Aremo Diipo Akinsete, who studied Fine Arts as first degree expressed reservations over the inability of the statue designer to carve the sage in his exact look . He wrote on his Facebook page, “The SA and commissioner doe Arts and culture in Lagos State should resigned. Is this Awo”?
Many also argued that the statue should have maintained a standing posture as other iconic statues globally. Baba Awolowo should not have been molded on a chair, Adeleke Bamilosin, a graduate of economics averred.
Strangely, the designer carved the revered nationalist putting on a laced Oxford peer of shoes that appears like safety boots while he adorned a befitting traditional Agbada attire with his trademark cap to march.
“The Oxford shoes could not have been worn by a style leader like Awolowo with traditional attires.
“Apart from being trained in the United Kingdom as a lawyer, Awolowo was a cosmopolitan dandy who would never commit such an error.
“Only loafers or shoes without laces are worn by the Yorubas with traditional attire”, Adelakun Adeoye observed.

Although the status did not look like late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, they can still make correction. Thanks.
