Apparently embarrassed by the tankers logjam in the Apapa area of Lagos and seeming lack of capacity of the Ambode-led government to tackle the menace, the Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has reached out to previous commissioners of transport in Lagos including Dr Muiz Banire, SAN, Kayode Opeifa for advisory.
Banire and Opeifa had served as commissioners for Transport in Lagos State.
A competent source close to the Vice-President told COMPLETE NEWS that Osinbajo was alarmed at the level of degradation and horrific traffic chaos when he visited the Apapa area recently to assess the situation.
According to the source, Osinbajo who had served in the Lagos State cabinet was said to have wondered why the traffic situation which was well managed under Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola government had suddenly collapsed under the incumbent governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
The source added that Apapa menace has become an embarrassment to the Muhammadu Buhari government as media beam searchlight on the chaos in the axis.
Osinbajo who was said not be comfortable with fire brigade approach of the Lagos State Government sought the opinions of those who had earlier tamed irate tanker drivers and achieved sanity on Lagos roads.
Meanwhile, this was not the first external intervention to salvage menace that spiraled out of control of the Lagos state government. A former Lagos State Governor and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC , Bola Tinubu had to intervene in the waste management crisis before the aggrieved PSP operators could return back to work.
Ambode had tried without success to get the local waste managers to work with a purported foreign waste company, Visionscape until Tinubu called the aggrieved PSP operators to a meeting assuring them that their investment in the sector would be protected before they returned to work.
It will be recalled that heaps of refuse were almost like skyscrapers in most part of the state before PSP operators rescued beleaguered Visionscape.
