The interim national chairman of the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, Saturday, came down heavily on President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of having succeeded in reducing Nigeria to a kindergarten governance.
Addressing journalists at his country home at Ila Orangun, in Osun State, Akande also urged Jonathan to forget his ambition for the 2015 presidency, alleging that his leadership style had already drawn the nation back.
The former governor of Osun State further accused the president of being extremely lackadaisical to serious national issues.
Blasting Jonathan for not heeding good pieces of advice given him by well-meaning Nigerians, including himself, Akande claimed that he had, to no avail, engaged the president on serious issues of national development.
The APC leader said: “Jonathan has not taken national issues seriously; he is more concerned about his third-term… By his attitude, he has succeeded in reducing Nigeria to kindergarten governance.”
According to him, since the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has shown its incapability to tackle the myriad of problems confronting the nation, Nigerians should reject it 2015 and accept the APC which is waiting to take over through legitimate and democratic means.
He said if the APC is voted in, Nigerians would have access to good governance which, he argued, the PDP had failed to provide.
Akande also accused Jonathan of trivialising his office as President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by cultivating the habit of witch-hunting his perceived foes with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“Our priority in APC is to embark on massive mobilisation and registration of members across Nigeria in order to give our party a strong structure that will send PDP parking in 2015. PDP has expired because Nigerians are tired. I’m happy that a credible and reliable party in APC is waiting as an alternative to the ruling party, which has not moved the country forward since 1999 it has been in control at the centre. We’ve overcome the challenge of registration; our next preoccupation is registration of members across the country. How to pick candidates for political positions would be decided in future” said Akande.
