…. They Are Rabble Rousals Sponsored By APC – Adams
Some aggrieved members of the Oodua Peoples Congess, OPC who are up in arms with the National Coordinator of the group, Otunba Gani Adams over the role he played in the last Monday ‘Jega Must Go’ mass rally in Lagos. They demanded his resignation as the leader of the group.
The National Welfare Chairman, Monsuru Akande alongside other prominent and foundation members of the group at a press conference in Lagos at the weekend decried the partisanship of Adams stressing that he had deviated from the course of the Yoruba group.
“We ask Gani Adams to quit OPC and join active politics. We call all Yoruba leaders to prevail on Gani Adams to leave us. Report reaching us is that Gani Adams is planning to remove us from the circulation either through the use of state apparatus and sponsored attacks’, Akande said.
According to Akande , the rules of the OPC, forbid leaders of being partisan addingt that was what left to ousting of erstwhile leader, Dr. Fredrick Fasheun.
We are not in support of what his doing, he is on his own. We are calling him to order. The risk of OPC being partisan is grievous. We don’t care if it is APC or PDP that wins the election. What happens if APC now win.
Dr Fredrick Fasheun did not do up to half of what Gani Adams had done before he was removed as a leader.
Comrade Adeshina Akinpelu, another notable leader of the OPC claimed that over 75 percent members of the OPC were opposed to the protest led by Gani Adams saying the protest was just to say ‘thank you’ for the alleged N9b contract awarded to him by the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, Gani Adams had dismissed the allegations of the Mosuru Akande and his colleagues describing them as hawks and agents of the All Progressives Congress, APC who were only rambling.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the OPC, Hakeem Ologunro accused the APC of desperation ahead of the forthcoming polls warning ‘rebellious’ members of the OPC of grave consequence of disparaging the leadership of the group.
Ologunro claimed that Akande and his co-travelers had been expelled by the leadership of the OPC since 2007.
The statement read, Again, the hawks are beginning to display their desperation as the election draws nearer. Under the guise of a group, purportedly belonging to the OPC, a former member, one Monsuru Akande, has addressed a press conference calling for the resignation of Otunba Gani Adams as leader of the OPC.
“ Funny enough, Monsuru Akande signed the so-called press release as the Welfare Chairman of the OPC. But the man holding this position since 2007 after Monsuru was sacked had been Comrade Oluwole Iyaromi. But for the benefit of the public, I would like to explain some points here. Monsuru Akande was expelled from the Congress for anti – party activities in 2007.
“ Soon after his expulsion, Monsuru became a land grabber and thug to one Owo- Eye and Sons, an Estate Agent locates in Sango area of Ogun State. Let the public ask Monsuru why he was sacked from the group, which of the zone of the Congress does he belong to and did he and his fellow rabble rousers demand the sum of 10 million from Otunba Gani Adams before he was eased out of the Congress in 2007? It is however surprising that Monsuru and his group are coming out shortly after our protest. We would rather advise them and their pay masters to be ready to bear the consequences of their actions.
“ We are not unaware that the APC Is Behind the activities of these faceless groups in their desire to cause disaffection among our members. But we are sure that they will fail in every step of the way. A similar scenario played out in Ekiti State, where a faceless group claimed it belong to the OPC. But soon after their purported press statement, that state secretary called to dissociate himself from the statement. We would expect more of such statements from these people until after the election. But let’s tell Nigerians now that whoever deals with these people does so at his or her own risk”
