The spate of political violence rocking Rives State as not abated. Gunmen today launched attack on the All Progressives Congress, APC, office in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Andoni Local Government of the state.
The attack reportedly took place in the early hours of today as the Dakuku Peterside, APC Rivers State governorship candidate’s campaign train, hit Omoku.
It would be recalled this fresh attack came in less than a week after the Dakuku Peterside Campaign Organization was bombed in Okrika when APC was setting up a campaign podium for his rally there.
The campaign manager of Dakuku Peterside Organization in Ogba/Egbema/ANdoni Local Government, Austin Ahiamadu, said the attack on the party’s office was intended to disrupt the APC campaign rally.
“Throughout the night there were sporadic shooting with gunmen attacking key loyalists of our party. Other parties have organized campaigns in Omoku and APC members have never attacked them. The action is cowardly and meant to intimidate APC,” he said.
Also confirming the attack Felix Okorogie said the attack is a cowardly action to intimidate APC.
He, however, commended the security agencies for their prompt response to the distress sent to them.
The police have not confirmed the latest attack on APC loyalists and APC office in Omoku. The campaign rally kicked off despite the attack on APC office in Omoku.
