A group of technicians and Engineers in the nation’s largest computer and other allied market, Computer Village, Ikeja Lagos have planned to float a body that will harness the huge potentials of technicians and Computer Engineers in the country.
Speaking in an Interview with the Technology Times, Tayo Oni who is the coordinator of the proposed National Association of Computer Engineers and Technicians, NACET said the association is overdue considering the contributions of Technicians to the growth of the nation’s economy especially ICT sector.
According to him, there are over 2500 potential members in Computer Village alone. He added that when the Association concludes its registration other clustered markets willl be captured.
Oni who has been playing in the market for more than a decade is the Chief Executive Officer of Tironis Computers also said that he has observed how the market evolved over the years from a handful Technicians and computer Engineers to the current enviable numbers adding that it is important to have a formal platform to interface with various stakeholders including the government.
“ I have been in this market( Computer Village) for more than a decade and I discovered that we need to have a platform to advance our course and get integrated into government plans considering the contribution we make in the sector” Oni says.
Oni also expressed confidence about the co-opertaion of members in ensuring that the group succeeds. According to him, there were inclusive consultations among stakeholders on the structure, name of the Association before adoption.
Oni said as a testimony to the acceptance of the proposed Association, over 250 members have identified with the group even before take off.
