The Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr Hyginus Omeje has urged motorists in Lagos to stop patronizing Touts while seeking to obtain or renew their Driver’s licences saying the FRSC has made the process easy.
Omeje disclosed this yesterday in Lagos at a sensitization/awareness workshop organized in partnership with the CLEEN Foundation.
The FRSC boss who was represented by the state Head of Operations, Mr Micheal Olapade told the participants that contrary to the belief that the process of obtaining Driver’s license was cumbersome, it is very easy to obtain a license. Olapade said there are twenty-two centres in Lagos where motorists could obtain and renew their licenses.
To obtain a license, Olapade disclosed that an applicant must present a proficient in driving certificate from a FRSC’s approved driving school. After then, a learner certificate from the Vehicle Inspection Office is required including a medical certificate from a Government Hospital.
He continued, “Then the applicant will undergo VIO test to certify he has perfected driving. If the applicant passed the test, then he goes online to fill the application form and pay N6,350 into the Corps’ bank account. The next stage is physical capturing. After then, a temporary licence is issued immediately. After a month, the applicant will be issued the permanent license”.
He urged motorists to go through the right channel warning that anyone caught with fake Driver licence will be slammed with N20,000 fine.
The Senior Programme Officer at the CLEEN Foundation, Mrs Blessing Abiri while speaking on the sideline of the workshop said the need to eliminate corruption and exploitations in the process of obtaining Driver’s license necessitated the CLEEN foundation partnership with FRSC to sensitize motorists.
“When you sensitize the people and you armed them with the right information they will got through the right process. Our(CLEEN)is to make lives of citizens better without having to go through the stress”, Abiri said.
Oluwadara Awe, one of the serving NYSC members who attended the event said she had been adequately enlightened on the process of obtaining Driver’s Licence. The University of Lagos Graduate enjoined road users to adhere to safety stipulated procedures of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
