There were fireworks at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Mega Rally held today at Benin City, the capital of Edo State where leaders of the party took turn to lambast the National Leader of the All Progressinves Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu for calling on Edo People to reject Governor Godwin Obaseki on Saturday at the polls.
Tinubu on Tuesday morning in a sponsored broadcast on the Television Continental, TVC urged Edo voters to reject the governor describing him as a dictator who is undermining the gains democracy.
In their reactions, Chief Tom Ikimi, the chieftain of the PDP slammed Tinubu for the comments querying how Tinubu amassed stupendous wealth between 1999 when he became governor of Lagos State and now.
The elder stateman stressed on the contrary Tinubu was the one compromising the democratic structures in Nigeria with ‘bullion vans’.
He said, “I was disturbed he (Tinubu) made such a funny statement. The masquerade has been unmasked today. We are not fighting against Ize-Iyamu but Bola Tinubu and Adams Oshiomhole.
“Bola Tinubu tell me how much you have in 1998/1999. Today they say you are a billionaire, you move money in trucks called bullions to compromise democracy. Bullion van won’t work in Edo state. Edo is not Lagos.
“In 2015, he denied Ambode second term despite appeal from President Muhammadu Buhari. He want to extend the same tendency here. It will not work.
Ikimi warned the former governor of Lagos State to steer clear of Edo politics and elections.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus said the expansionist tendency of Tinubu won’t extend to Edo State. He said the people of the state had resolved to push him back through their votes. :
He said, “Your (Tinubu’s) expansionist tendency won’t extend to Edo. Edo is South – south not Lagos. Punish him with your votes. Look at him making a broadcast, is he from Edo.
“Punish him with your votes by voting for Obaseki. The security forces have made promise they will be fair. If they don’t fulfill their promise, there will be no election again in Nigeria”.
Media modul and chieftain of the PDP, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi reiterated the acceptability of Obaseki across the state especially in the Edo North Senatorial district. He said the people of the district had a better deal under Obaseki compared to the regime of Adams Oshiomhole who hails from the district.
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesome Wike urged the PDP supporters to be vigilant on Saturday and monitor their voters closely. ”Follow you votes bumper to bumper. Wear jeans on that day and monitor your votes”, he charged party faithful. l(wf
