Nigeria’s frontline oil Tycoons and bank executives are currently scampering around over the resolve of President Muhammadu Buhari to frontally fight corruption and probe various financial fraud and economic crimes allegedly committed under former President Goodluck Jonathan administration, the Complete News has learnt.
A highly credible source who confided in our correspondent at the weekend disclosed that many of the oil billionaires and bank managing directors who cut fraudulent ‘deals’ running into billions under the immediate past Government are making frantic efforts to escape arrest and subsequent prosecution.
The President had declared that he would not treat corruption cases with kid gloves stressing that monies that were siphoned under the Goodluck Jonathan Government were too huge to ignore.
It will be recalled that Governor Adams Oshiomhole who was part of the Buhari delegates to the United States revealed that a Minister cornered as much as $6 Billion under Jonathan.
To demonstrate his seriousness to crush graft, the President had ordered pending queries in ministries, departments and Agencies to be answered promptly.
The Source also said the unofficial visit of few Nigeria’s business leaders to the United States when the President was on State visit to the country was part of the plot to seek audience with the President in order to get a soft landing.
Meanwhile, Buhari’s refusal to grant special audience to ‘non-invited’ guests further acerbated the worries of the tycoons.
The Complete News also learnt that a frontline player in the oil and Gas sector who hails from the north central part of Nigeria had been making frantic calls to individuals of influence who can deliver him from Buhari’s determination to prosecute looters.
“ I can confirm to you that most of the oil billionaires and top bank managing directors have been running around town to see if they could escape probe and prosecution. The concerns and worry for them is that President Buhari cannot be compromised. He does not have a price. How do you even want to say it?”, the Source stressed.
He continued, “ In fact as far as the war against corruption is concern, President Buhari does not have a preference. He can prosecute anybody including members of his immediate family. You can see that many who had stole money have been returning their loots”.
When asked why the Buhari phobia gripped bank executives, the Source said most of the billions which were starched in various countries of the world were facilitated by the bank chiefs. He added that investigations also revealed that some bank CEOs were part of the syndicate what specialized in crude oil theft.
He said, “They (Bank CEOs) are culpable as well. As a matter of fact, they facilitated most the economic crimes allegedly committed under the past Government of Jonathan. It might interest you to know that they even handle oil theft cash transactions’.
