A socio-cultural group, Yoruba Ko’ya Movement has begun mounting of signposts across the south western Nigeria in a bid to affirm the territorial integrity of the region.
COMPLETE NEWS correspondent saw atleast three giants sign posts between Ibadan and Lagos. There is one few meters away from the Gurumaraji Village, Ibadan. Another sign board with inscription, “ This is Yoruba land’ was mounted around KM 46, close to Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
The third sign post was sighted by COMPLETE NEWS correspondent at Berger bus-stop inward Lagos from Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Findings from this newspaper revealed that the Yoruba Ko’ya in collaboration with other Yoruba ethnic determination groups are working assiduously to defend the region from external aggression and to halt the controversial narrative that the region especially Lagos is ‘No Man’s Land’.
Recall that the debate was intense in the build up to the 2015 governorship elections in Lagos where some non-yoruba speaking ethnic groups argued that Lagos was no man’s land. Furious Oba of Lagos, His Royal Highness, Rilwan Akiolu even issued threats against certain people.
It was further gathered that the scandalous spate of killings and insecurity especially the Fulani Herdsmen carnage campaign across the country necessitated the moves.
“ If you don’t assert your history and territory, foreigners will write your history and encroach on your land. The flawed federalism structure we maintained in Nigeria cannot protect the interest of the Yoruba nation.
“I can tell you for free that there is well scripted campaign of conquest raging from north down south. Yu have observed that in the sustained killings in Benue and Taraba. And it is a matter of time that the same murderous campaign will flow down. Therefore, it is a signal to those marauders and their sponsors that south west cannot be occupied under any guise”, a top Yoruba culture enthusiast told COMPLETE NEWS.
