The convener, the United Action for Change, UAC Dr Muiz Banire, SAN has charged Nigerian youths to wake up from slumbering and take charge of their destiny by using their population strength to turn Nigeria around.
Banire, who is the National Legal Adviser of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC gave this charge in Lagos on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the 2017 United Action for Change Leadership Training.
He said the youths have larger stake in the Nigerian project stressing that,’ If youths today decide to vote for one of their own, he will emerge president because of your population.
Banire decried the myriad challenges confronting the youths challenging them not to succumb to problems but rise to take their due place in the affairs of things in Nigeria.
‘Youths are suffering. For how long would they be in slavery and servitude. It is painful that nowadays parents after training their children through school, sponsor their weddings and also undertake the training of their grand children. It is very pathetic’ The challenge is before you already’, Banire told the youths who had undergone 3- day residential leadership training programme.
He also narrated how he remained relevant in the Lagos politics years after he quit government saying he had always maintained an alternative contact address outside government and politics.
According to him, he never shut his law chamber for a day throughout the twelve years he served in the Lagos State cabinet.
“ Throughout the years I spent in government, I never shut my law chamber for a day. After closing at Alausa, I usually go to my office and on weekends I worked at my office. That is why I was always bold to speak my mind to my bosses. The worse they could do is to sack me and I will return back to my law practice.
“So, there are so many ‘yes men’ in government because they don’t have alternative contact addresses. They have no principles, no conviction. They fall for everything. The fact that your position is not popular does not mean that they are wrong. You just have to make up your mind to stand for something.
“Another reason why some people have it difficult to speak out against injustice and tyranny is the fear of death. As Muslim and I also know that Christians believe that no man can determinate life of another man except God permits. That I know for a fact.
Again, it has been shown that death is no longer the function of age, status and ill-health. Afterall, Baba(President Muhammadu Buhari) returned alive from London. So, we must settle that within ourselves.
“Another reason many keep mute is because of what to eat after confronting an injustice and get kick out from vantage positions. That is why you must be industrious. You must focus and be serious about your work so that you can be secured financially. Let me say that it is only God that can make any man. No man has such powers.
During an interactive session with the participants, Banire defined success as a attainment of goals that has lasting positive impact on the society and not primitive accumulation of wealth .
