The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has called on Nigerian Muslims to exploit the period of the Ramadan fast to pray for the restoration of peace through the length and breadth of the country.
Describing Nigeria as a nation going through hard times, the politician said Nigerians realise that it would take the intervention of God to bail their country out of its current difficulties.
Agbaje gave the counsel in a Press Statement signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Felix Oboagwina, saying, peace had eluded Nigeria for too long.
“Especially with the advent of a new administration, Nigerians everywhere deserve peace,” the PDP Governorship Candidate said. “This holy period provides a great atmosphere to seek supernatural help for the restoration of peace to this great country.”
He also enjoined Muslims to pray for the success of new regimes at the Federal Government, state government and local government levels, as well as for the people of Nigeria.
“We must pray that God will bless this country with caring and visionary leaders, leaders who would have a passion for programmes and policies geared towards alleviating the sufferings of the common man,” he said.
“This is the holiest period in the Islamic calendar and our Muslim brethren should seize the opportunity to seek divine intervention in our national affairs,” Agbaje said. “Politicians and government can do their best, but it takes the intervention of the Almighty God to turn a nation’s fortunes around and to prevent natural and other sorts of disasters.”
Enjoining Islamic faithful to seize the period as a time for sober reflection, Agbaje encouraged them to cooperate with their neighbours from other faiths to create an atmosphere that would facilitate peaceful coexistence and nation-building.
