The much awaited inauguration of the 8th National Assembly was this morning postponed as the security agents prevented lawmakers from gaining access into the National Assembly Complex. Pandemonium still ensues at the time of filling this report at 9:40 am
The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Muhammed had earlier informed that the President Muhammadu Buhari will address the lawmakers by 9am today.
It will be recalled that The Complete News had reported that inauguration might end in stalemate following grievances of some APC lawmakers over the emergence of Semator Ahmed Lawan and Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as the sole Senate president and speaker of the House of Representatives respectively.
Findings by this medium revealed that the APC leadership stalled the inauguration following a last minutes agreement between Senator Bukola Saraki and the People Democratic Party, PDP lawmakers. The opposition lawmakers have thrown their weight behind Saraki.
While the APC controls 59 out of the 109 seats in the upper house as against PDP’s 49, the ruling party similarly dominates the 360-member lower house with over 200 federal legislators.
