The Supreme Court today ruled that the National Assembly should stop further steps towards amending the 1999 constitution.
A seven-man panel of justices of the apex court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, ordered the National Assembly to maintain status quo on the amendment till June 18.
It will be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan had approached the apex to stop the lawmakers from amending the nation’s constitution.
